Porto Portugal

We met our guide Ricardo right out front. He had a black Lexus to drive us around. Umbrella in hand we got in his car.

The ride was 1.5 hours. We passed too many to count wine fields. But, it turns out there aren’t large mega wineries.  Its all small plots of land owned by families. All small wineries producing local vintage.

We stopped at one. The operation wasn’t large run by a woman with a man running the chemistry of the wine production.

We walked passed the stainless steel and barrels. We sat outside for tasting. We were served blankets. Yes it was that freezing outside with the rain. We tried 4 wines. Nothing exciting caught our attention. So after freezing we got back in the car. Drove not far and came to this little red door. Inside there was a small outdoor square. We went in another door. We met the lady and she brought us to a glass enclosed porch with a beautiful view of the valley.

We were served a salad with, white rice and a beef dish and a portugese cod dish which was delicious!

During the meal we were served various wines whites and reds. I believe it was about 6 wines. But, finally we tasted Portos. Unfortunately it was port and not tawny port.  But, we were impressed and bought a bottle each.

The man was extremely knowledgeable about wines and Port. They were such nice people.

Unfortunately we had to get back. We drive back the same way we came.

There is also chest nuts, olives are wild everywhere. Another large growing item is eucalyptus.

We were driven right to the ramp to the ship.  It was another great day. He was so knowledgeable and kind and funny.

We got back and went to floor 14 and got the buffet. We picked at food. Then we went down to the theatre. It was a magician. He had no interest. He was I think getting a cold? So we went up early. He went to bed. I think the cold and rain all day got to him.

Thanks for stopping by. It makes me happy.
