Napoli, Italy day 15. (may16th)

Up at 5:30am! That in itself is nearly impossible for me to rise before the sun!

We meet the bus at 7:30 am. We have a tour that takes us from Naples to Sorrento along the Amafi drive to the end! I have done this before and it is quite spectacular if you have never done it. You drive along I think the guide told us there is over 230 hairpin s curves that are barely minimally 2 cars wide. The drop is straight down rock cliffs into death.  Houses of every size are built directly into the cliff mountains. Some look like castles, other villas others like they will fall down with a huff and a puff.

The rich ones have an elevator, which is rare, others you have to walk up an ungodly amount of stairs straight up. Yet it is such spectacular scenery. Unfortunately we got on the wrong side of the bus and had to stand dangerously to see and take pictures. What was worse it was cloudy and drizzling so the views weren’t as nice as they could be. Oh the mountains come right up out of the Mediterranean Sea .

We first stopped at a cameo factory. Incredible how they etch a shell and develop these pieces of work!  Well do bears crap in the woods? Of course I got a cameo!

Then we stopped at Sorrento. Narrow streets, tourists galour, shops galore it’s pretty crazy but at the same time has a quaintness about it.  We also saw a funeral with a Hearst, follow by flowers, followed by walkers, yes walkers? Where they were going is a guess?

We also stopped at a place that makes inlaid wood boxes, pictures, furniture! Absolutely gorgeous!  I saw the most beautiful jewelry box it only cost $4,000. Someone please start a collect for me!

We went to lunch in a beautiful restaurant with gardens inside we had canellini not sure how it’s spelled but it had ricotta and spinach inside really good. Chicken and limoncello cake. Lemoncello is everywhere in this town.  In fact, olive trees and orange colored lemon trees are even growing in the street, everywhere!

We drove on to the town of Amalfi. Again crowded with tourists. We walked to a famous church with over 60 steps straight up. Outside in the tumult of tourist was a wedding! Out of no where.

We came back ate dinner and went to a crazy show acrobats married doing poses that didn’t seem human. They made it in Guinness book of records!

We got back and saw a crazy thunderstorm out our balcony. I immediately thought of my son, who I know would have loved it.

Hope you enjoyed the day!

This is Amalfi. The homes buil t on the rocks to the water.

The second is gelato it is everywhere! One street we counted 11 gelato stores.

The 3rd and 4th are the same area of housing! The 5th to the water!
