Pireaus looks like the other ports only bigger. Ships are everywhere. All kinds, yachts, ferries, containers, hovercrafts, European cruise ships, tugs, pilot ships. It is a huge shipping port.
Buildings are crammed on top of each other and straight up.
We decided since the traffic here is crazy, think of the worst you can imagine double it! Motorcycles are parked everywhere even lined up on the sidewalks. We decided to just walk around. We have seen the Acropolis, Parthenon, and plaka and other ruins.
It was a fiasco getting the shuttle from one terminal to another. It was fairly painless on getting a customs stamp for vat tax (A return of tax money charged to non-Europeans something like 12 percent!) oh and finding the “yellow post box!” Oy vey But we prevailed.
I did not take a camera on our walk, of course I should have . We walked and mostly it is like a big city with tall office buildings. BUT the streets go straight up! Imagine stairs to go up the street! So we walk along the shore. Then we come to the church..so Greek pure white with a blue round top! You know your in Greece!
Oh and banks are secure! Only one can go in at a time. You have to press a code and go in that door which locks behind you and you have to press another button to get in the second door!
We keep walking and voila! Side walk eating one after another for blocks on! So Greek, make your own salad..the price by piece tomato, cheese whatever you add has a price! Then so many things wrapped in phyllo dough! And everywhere a pretzel like food but flat and lots of seasoning. We had a phyllo filled with cheese we think it was ricotta..or close. Yummy.
The food is amazing here. The choices from olive oil, to Kalamata and green olives, baklava, ozoo the liquor. We did not see gyro, or falafel but we did not see sit down restaurants.
We walked back and got the camera. We had to get a picture of the red bear On top of the ship. We had dinner and saw a great show of old soul music.
I did not share yesterday! We ate breakfast, went to an art auction..no purchase. Went to lunch slept, read, tried to get yesterday’s pictures added to my blog .so frustrating! Ate more saw a soprano saxophone show and slept some more! A lazy day indeed!
Ah! The weather is finally getting warmer like we are use to! I am getting excited about the cruise now. From here on I have never been so it should be so interesting! We did get a notice about the Gulf of Aden! We have to keep lights outside off and curtains closed! There will be a special drill later on. They say this ship is too huge and fast for pirates to attack! I always told my kids don’t worry unless you have too!
