i just want to note that the day before reaching INDIA the sea was like glass. It was so pretty. We saw Dolphins at play. I attended a lecture on IPad camera maybe my pictures will improve. We saw a show in 270 where the windows turn to screens so they look like curtains! The people come out of the floor and ceiling. Pretty remarkable.
COCHIN INDIA
I have never been to this country. I have to add that this is the old part of the city not the high rise inner city across the water. My goodness slum land describes it! Filthy dirty garbage everywhere. Traffic is awful the streets are narrow. The cabs are cute 3 wheels no windows in them or the buses. The have a monsoon season and the streets flood. Goats are walking around, I saw one cow lying in front of a shack. Here and there you might see a decent home but most are filth squares. The shops are the size of a small bathroom. There is little air conditioning and the air is so thick and humid. Many are just lying around. Old men piss in the street. The horns beep and people walk in the street, they drive on the right, and the buses have a man standing on the left so they don’t hit a car, bike, person. We did stop and visit a very old church, palace, and temple. There are so many religions here, Buddhist, Hindu and varieties of christans .There are dialects within the provinces. Even the food is different per town, some, cumin, curry, coconut depends on the location. What a mess.
I spent another day in Cochin. We went on a boat ride in the harbor. we saw Chinese fishing nets.. they are huge and hoisted by rocks. The nets are suspended with arms and are lowered in to the water. The men wait ten minutes and pull up the net remove the fish so the birds don’t get them first! They do this for two hours at a time.
We also went to a show which was weird. the costumes were vibrant but it was based on facial expression and finger and hand movement. There was no words only a sort of moaning is the best description from someone in the rear and small drums held by others on the side.
We went to the new city an area with some high rise buildings. They were not in the greatest shape. Yet, here and there a rehabilitation was taking place or a new one was being built. Things are difficult here to grasp. The kids are being educated and going to universities even over seas. Many kids get jobs over seas and send money home. They do have money and are aware of brands, you see Levi jeans for example which the kids are wearing. Our guide told us, it is the older generation who do not understand sanitation, who throw garbage or pee in the street. They can not get general workers. But, they voted to be communist which to me doesn’t make sense. Therefore, no money is used to help the people. We did see a bunch of teens, picking up garbage but it is the tourist street. Typical maneuver of communist countries we have been to mainly Russia.
RI will post this even though the post indicates picture failure. I hope it is wrong I hope you enjoy.
