We took a cultural tour and therefore decided not to go into the city which is an 11/2 hour drive from the ship. I know it has the tallest twin towers. The place is dirty with garbage in the streets. It reminds me of an old area say of daytona florida a long row of shops each one representing a specific trade, car, bicycles, mechanic, supermarket. Many houses are very run down and in many cases live right next to their business. It is not very nice. Every once in a while you will see a nice home, or a group together that are decent, but that’s a minority.
We stopped at a home, made into a hostel for tea and appetizers. the appetizers were like samoas, banana fritters, peanut brittle, banna leaf wrapped with tapioca inside, which I didn’t like. The house was built with add ons. Every time there was another child they added on another piece, there were 7 kids. The gardens in front were beautiful. In fact, orchids grow randomly here and there, it is very pretty.
We stopped at a Malaysia form of sams. But, you must remove your shoes, to go in the home above and the store! I did not. go in the store. But, Malaysians were buying bags that looked the size of a 40lb bag of dog food, filled with chips of all kinds. Most I believe were banana chips. Not just one but a car full!
Then we stopped for photo shoots of a blue round mosque, which can hold 10,000 people, imagine it was massive! Then we stopped for a picture of the sultan’s home, massive! It was beautiful, with gorgeous garden and huge pool area, the house was massive.
We walked through little India. It was similar to the little India in Singapore. The fabrics are gorgeous and cheap. But what on earth would I do with an Indian sari. The fabrics were so ornate and silk just amazing. The had bangle bracelets that were so pretty. Unfortunately, my wrist is so big I don’t fit any of them!
