However, today is all about The US Space and Rocket center in Huntsville, Alabama. It took an hour to get here in Al. But it was so worth it. You leave knowing we will go to Mars they say by 2030!
The place is huge, there are at least 33,000 employees. The bldgs are everywhere and the parking lots are insanely parked with hundreds of cars. When driving down the homes were tiny boxes and mobile homes…then all of a sudden there was a strange community of large very nice home! Turns out , as we guest are employees of NASA .
The rockets and missiles are so enormous. Unbelievable when you are next to them. There is so much info. We were there all day and didn’t see it all. We went on a bus ride to the command center for the space center. You need ID. You are separated by a glass window. These folks are talking to the space station 24/7 in 8 hr shifts. But there are several areas to work and they rotate jobs so they don’t burn out.
They break down the Gemini and Apollo and history going back to the 1940s. I even found ET! And the robotic humanoid on board the space ship. He doesn’t have a head yet, but arms and legs. They will get there. The SLS , a poster, is the latest and is scheduled to leave from Kennedy space center in 2018.The amount of research is insane, from cells for disease, plants, oh it goes on. I took numerous pics I will share. It is so worth the trip!
