Sick I am Coughing up aliens, taking robitussin, and slept eat slept coughed for 2 daYS! BUT! I paid for a private guide and I want to see the city of Evita and the Tango!
Fabian, our guide was great! He was very nice, very informative about the city and we had a great time. We were lucky in that the city was on vacation. Think, LA, NYC, DC traffic. This city is there. However, it was quiet no traffic, nothing was open but that’s ok. We got to see everything!
The city is broken into areas not unlike any city. There were the hi rise apt bldgs with their balconies. There was the old huge mansions turned into embassies, think DC. Looked the same. The poorer section with pools on the street. It was 104 degrees hot and humid.
Then there were the sections that make it Buenos Aires. We saw the Plaza de Mayo that ends at the Rosada, or pink Palace.The place where the president does his work. He lives elsewhere? Really? The place is bigger than the White House, like a European castle and there is no bedroom? What?
Then there were the big bldgs with European influence which were grand especially the Colon theatre, opera house..would have liked to see the inside.
We went to Recoleta cemetery where Evita is buried in her brother crypt. Think New Orleans. Mausoleums that go on forever rows and rows it’s huge! Some were so elaborate and others falling apart. We couldn’t see evitas the line was enormous!
We saw the La Boca district, which is historic with colorful painted homes, and lively cafes. Tango dancers. That was so fun. Where else do you see that in the street!
We also saw San Tema with cobblestone streets, cafes, tango dancers, grilling outside. Definitely having an argentine flavor.
We did go to eat at a rather ritz restaurant, Firo. It is a steak house in the upscale neighborhood. We were stuck not much was open. We had asado steak, melt in your mouth, pork tenderloin, and sausage beef and pork with grilled veggies. It cost a whopping $100.00! But it was a good experience.
I was exhausted, coughing up a lung when we got back. Okay I am sick.
Unfortunately, I could not rally for New Years! Hope yours was great! There were parties all over the ship, I was done done.
