January 4, 2017 day 31 Rio djanero off ship

There isn’t much to say about getting off the ship. There is always some hassle. It took a while to get off, There was a huge line to get thru, luggage wasn’t to be found because it wasn’t off the ship yet? Really?. Then a line thru customs I smiled at this guy and he waved us past customs…yippee!
It was hot hot! 104 degrees hot.
We finally got to our hotel on the beach cococabana! Yep there are string bakinis everywhere, men and woman.

There are people everywhere. The Brazilian women, who are NOT fat, where the shortest of shorts. They all seem to have straight black hair and they don’t cut it. Pony tails and head wraps of hair everywhere of all ages.

The bldgs are written on, painted on if there is space it’s covered. Some is pretty nice!

Our hotel is very nice. On top there is a pool and fence all around you can see the entire beach. It is in a horseshoe shape. The sand is so hot there are hoses watering a line in the sand down to the water to protect feet. Games everywhere, running, volleyball, soccer, exercising. I got a picture of Jesus in the sky!

On the way to the hotel we had a tour on the bus. We passed some favala (the slums) house built straight up the Mtn. No roads just stairs! We passed the bldg where they build the floats for Rio Carnival. The stadium is huge gigantic.

At 3pm we got our room. We stopped at the bar for a drink. A dark beer, with a coffee flavor was 20 oz. or 200ml about $10.00. I had the Brazilian drink can’t think of the name but good and sour!

We booked dinner and a show. Fabulous! Dinner was so Brazilian. There was a buffet for salads. However, they bring the meat on skewers, all kinds, beef in ribs, short ribs, baby beef, rare beef, well done beef, stringy beef, then pork, chicken in all sorts of forms and then sausages of every type you can imagine! It was endless. The best meal.

Then we went to a show the Platforma. It was amazing, it had different acts of dancing, continually with the same folkf, their legs moved so fast how is it possible? Then, the costumes were out of this world. Think a Vagas review only a million times more elaborate, crazy huge feather and beaded head dresses. It went on for 1&1/2 hrs. The men demonstrated the caprihana ? Form of dance and fight. How they can move that way is awesome! We loved it.

The ride back tot he hotel ABOUT 11pm, streets, eateries, the beach was PACKED with people! A different life for sure!

Exhausted tomorrow a tour.
