Oct 12 Venice

We had breakfast and went to meet our guide Isabella. We walked off a lot of desserts! I have been to Venice before but it still is such a romantic old city..

The buildings seem to be all different including colors. But, it is the windows and arch’s and decorative touches. The doors and knockers are different. You can’t help taking a million pictures.

There are over 400 bridges and they are different, they have turned some to private ones that go to a private walkway. Many have been turned into apts or condos. Our guide said some are only 700 sq ft. The size of a bathroom!

We stopped for pizza shared veggie and one with a charcoal crust. I had to get a chocolate cannoli with sweet cream…..yummo I was drooling!

There are stores everywhere many selling masks similar to the ones sold in New Orleans. We saw leather items and clothes but everything is very expensive. There are many stores selling glass, but our guide said most are junk not from Murano. The stores are the size of a bathroom.

We went thru the Rialto markets both fish and produce. Both markets were huge in size. They were amazing, the fish was so fresh the scallops were still closed. Everything was so gorgeous! The produce was fresh it looked like it came right out of the ground everything was so nice. It was packed with people. The stalls even had unusually things like every kind of mushrooms, figs, chestnuts, it was a big wow!

We then went to Saint Marks square. I remember it differently covered with pigeons. We went into the cathedral. We were glad our guide had a guide pass. The lines were huge. She made it interesting and described a number of the ceiling paintings and the religious significance. We did not have time to go into the palace.

We Then took a taxi to murano glass. The rest didn’t want to go, big mistake. We got to see the grand canal and all the beautiful places on the canal.

Murano glass was jaw dropping! One of the owners meet us. We had a master glass blower make a vase and a horse in a minute, amazing. We then went into the 👨‍🎨 designers glass rooms. the Chandeliers are indescribably beautiful. The glass pieces were works of art. Then we went to the next floor and there were glasses of gold and mirrors just spectacular beauty. Of course the prices were extremely high like in the thousands.

We feel in love with glasses that were paintings! Amazing is what they were to us. but then we had to go to the store where the beginner glass blowers stuff was displayed. . We ended up buying a cat and two Picasso glasses.

We took a private boat back to meet the others. Unfortunely we did not have time to go on a gondola ride. I have been so the others missed the experience so they lost the chance to see the grand canal.

We got back to the boat , did the muster station drill and found Els sister. We went for a drink. The diamond club expanded more than doubled. We met a nice couple from Charleston South Carolina.

We then met our family for dinner in the buffet. Once again I can’t control the desserts. I am fat.

We stood and watched show over the balcony. We met the art manager and spoke with him had a drink of champagne and he gave us a bottle! I was so tired we went back to the room and I passed out. A wonderful day!

I will have to add pictures later as this internet sucks!
